Puccini Festival

Tosca | La Rondine

Experience the wonderful music of Puccini in performances at the open-air lakeside stage in Torre del Lago. Our tour will be based in Lucca at the San Lucca Palace Hotel. Lucca is a fine walled city with many wonderful buildings and squares.

Nearby Torre del Lago was where Puccini made his home in the summer to flee the crowds and concentrate on composition.

There will be visits to the places associated with the composer including the fascinating Puccini Museum and Celle dei Puccini – the ancestral hilltop home with its Puccini Restaurant and collection of memorabilia.

Day 1

Meet at the San Luca Palace Hotel in Lucca. Welcome drinks and a walk around the city centre will be followed by dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2

An introductory talk on Puccini’s Tosca is followed by a visit to the Casa Natale where Puccini was born, which is now a museum. After free time for a little sight-seeing, we travel to Torre del Lago to visit the Villa Puccini and have dinner before this evening’s opera in the stunning lakeside theatre on the banks of Lake Massaciucole. Seats are in the best category and a drink is provided by the theatre.

Day 3

Introductory talk on Puccini's La Rondine. This lively comedy has been unjustly neglected over the years. The Puccini Festival has commissioned a new production especially for this year’s festival. We spend the morning on a visit to Celle dei Puccini before the evening performance at the lakeside.

Day 4

After a final leisurely breakfast guests are free to depart.

A range of operators fly from the UK to Pisa airport and Lucca is well served by through trains from major cities.
