Richard Strauss’ operatic triumph, loved by opera goers, is joined by Verdi’s entertaining final opera and Cherubini’s lavish Medea. During the day we visit the superbly restored Museuminsel complex including the Pergamon Museum, the nearby German Historical Museum, and the galleries and other museums of this remarkably rich cultural agglomeration. Dinner each evening will be at local restaurants around the Friedrichstrasse. There will be visits to other places of interest in the city. The itinerary is flexible depending on the size of the group.
Day 1
We meet at the Maritim proArte Hotel near to Friedrichstrasse and the Unter den Linden. The hotel is modern, comfortable and has a large swimming pool for those who enjoy a refreshing dip. Welcome drinks are followed by our first opera talk. An early dinner in near the hotel precedes tonight’s performance of Cherubini’s Medea (Médeé). Sonya Yoncheva sings the demanding title in this role in this intense and monumental work revived in the 1950’s by Maria Callas. Conductor Oksana Lyniv Director Andrea Breth
